Permalink What Holy Grails of Recorded Surf Music Are You Looking For? Anyone Have Extras?

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 3 4 Next

As surf music geeks, I think we're all collectors at heart. In recent discussions with fanatics from all over the world, it's become abundantly clear that the die-hards always want the "real" thing for their collections. Sure, a CDR or download works for digesting the recordings, but what we REALLY want is the actual McCoy to have, hold, and cherish forever. Unfortunately in many instances, particular CDs go out of print extremely fast and then the hunt is on.

So, just curious....what are some of your "Holy Grails" of surf music recordings? NOT what you think are the greatest, the ones you're seeking more than any others. (Any era, any medium)

AND......

If anyone has an extra copy of something mentioned here, why not pay it forward, get in touch with the seeker and work something out?

I'll begin....
Current Holy Grails:
The Bambi Molesters: Dumb Loud Hollow Twang DeLuxe FOUND!
The Torquays: Road Trip! FOUND!
Rock Don't Run: All 3 Volumes VOL. 2 FOUND!
Death Valley: Que Pasta! FOUND!

And as the first offer...I recently found an extra copy of Spies Who Surf: Calling All Martians. If it's one of your Holy Grails, shoot me a PM! SOLD!

Insect Surfers
The Tikiyaki Orchestra
The Scimitars
Lords Of Atlantis
Fiberglass Jungle - Surf Radio

Did you forget to put Death Valley, "Que Pasta" ?
Wink

and I know that you want cds,
but I'm pretty sure that Lee has the Treblemakers Vs. the Doomsday Device
on LP for sale.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

DOH!!!!!
Thanks, man! OK, now I'll have to edit that post!
Haha, you know my collection better than I do!!!

BTW, The Spies Who Surf has been claimed! Sooooo happy I could pass this on!

Insect Surfers
The Tikiyaki Orchestra
The Scimitars
Lords Of Atlantis
Fiberglass Jungle - Surf Radio

Jon Paul, if your want the Treble Makers vs The Doomsday device on cd, I have a copy I can give you.

I think of myself as a diehard music lover. I had just under 2000, jazz, sound-tracks, spaghetti, exotica, weird easy listening and some old surf records. Two years ago in April there was a huge flood here in Rhode Island and my basement ended up with 4 feet of water in it. All the vinyl, not to mention my basement, was trashed. Clean up took about 6 months. It was soon after that that I decided that I want to be able to carry my music collection around in a portable hard drive that’s well backed up. To me the media, be it CD’s, vinyl, cassettes, 8-track taped, dats, whatever it is are just one more thing that gets in the way of me listening to music. I’m waiting for the day I can have a microchip of my entire music collection implanted under my skin. Sorry, but cleaning up after the flood may have warped my perspective.

I have new copies of said Treblemakers CD for sale. Check out the link in the .sig.

What a buzz kill I am. Let me get into the spirit of things. How about The Mulchmen, CD "Greetings From Planet Stupider"

Or the Mulchmen album "Covered With Mulch"

Slacktone's Into the Blue Sparkle AND Warning: Reverb Instrumentals are my Holy Grails, it just does not get any better for me and I could live with just those two if I had to and I could spend years trying to learn all the songs and I would be a much better guitarist for doing so.
That Treblemakers CD a great one too.

I'd swap a copy of DLHT Deluxe (recently scored a copy of the original, no longer need the re-issue) for Sub-Mersians CDs. I've been desperately seeking the real deal for years. They just don't seem to exist. I also want Jon & The Nightriders' "Undercover" and "Banished to the Beach". I have a few duplicates from lot buys laying around here, but Guitar Noir is the only one that comes to mind right now.

I have this, but I wonder how many copies exist. http://www.discogs.com/Bambi-Molesters-Costal-Disturbance/release/3077227

Anybody have Dumb Loud Hollow Twang on vinyl? I'd love to pick that up, just for collector purposes.

Whoa whoa whoa,
Dumb Loud Hollow Twang Deluxe is (NOT) just a re-issue,
it's a whole NEW Re-recording of the album, adding horns etc.
and 4 bonus songs.
a Completely separate recording, and release
and both are must haves for any true Bambi Molesters fan.

Dumb Loud Hollow Twang Deluxe is a better record than the original issue, you can see the beginnings of brilliance on the first one, but the band is at an amazing place on Deluxe.

On clear vinyl. A personal gift from the band and straight from Lada and Hrvoje's record collection. It's not for sale, obviously.

Los Fantasticos

Want to buy The Nukes "The Scars of Tuskar" CD.

My roommate has this as well. He found it in the dollar bin at Amoeba.

Science friction burns my fingers.

Isn't one of BTD's holy grails that Phantom 4 CD? Madhur?
