I'd suggest 'uh oh' by The Imps.
They were a r 'n r band. Track is from 1961.
There' s no reverb on it.
Neanderthals did a great version of it on their space album and renamed it 'nasa' ll get it'. That way making it a fit in the space theme and given the A-side of the original 7" some 'credit'. Personally I like it a lot.
Cheers all,
Andy

From New York garage punk band, 1313 Mockingbird Lane - Backwash Beach (1995).

Not bad, at all. Sure captures the mid sixties vibe.

Those guys need to get day jobs, ‘cause they ain’t going’ nowhere, except maybe the drummer. I predict big things for that Pete Best fellow. Smile

All kidding aside, I like it, a lot. It’s definitely Surf-like, and on par with the sort of Rock guitar instrumentals one would likely hear at the time. What I find most interesting is how much unlike the Shadows their sound was. If you played it for me without any background information, I would definitely have thought it was from a U.S. band. I suspect that most of this comes down to the effects used. The Shadows would have have some elaborate Delay and, at least to my ear, this sounds like studio reverb.

This thread needs more Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives.

How many instros per album does Marty Stuart do?

Jeff, I'm no expert on Marty Stuart (and somebody correct me if I'm wrong), but a lot of the earlier albums seem to have had no instrumentals. "Way Out West" had 3 or 4. I think that the other fairly recent albums average one or two.

Let's have a black metal instro. I've only heard one or two other black metal instrumentals, so this is pretty rare!

The last two albums, Way Out West and Altitude had a few each. Way Out West is a masterpiece in my opinion, if you're into classic country twang meets cosmic reverb. I'm not yet a huge fan of Altitude.

There have been rumors for years that he has a surf double album already recorded, just waiting for release.

His guitar sidekick, Kenny Vaughan, writes a lot of the instrumentals. Here's a great one from his 2011 album, V

I really liked that.

And here's another black metal instro. Only 17 minutes!

I like that one too. Whereas Torpedo sounded like Surf to my ear, this one sounded Western, which is fine by me.

Kenny Vaughan is definitely worth listening to. We were in the same place (Denver) at the same time (‘70s), and even hung out at the same music store (Gordon Close’s Melody Music) but I don’t know that I ever met him. I sorta wish I had.

Thanks guys for Marty Stuart input

I really like that Kenny Vaughan tune, thanks for sharing it.

MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale.

Well, "Eastwood" with Brad Paisley has a nice Spaghetti Surf Vibe!

!Working on a tan" has some nice Surfy vibe to the guitar playing as well, but that one ain't instrumental.

Saw these guys regularly back in the 80's and was lucky enough to share a bill with them back in 2012.
