The issue with Sonny Landreth has a mod where you put in a small shim, that according to Gerald Weber makes the reverb better...

Tom, can you elaborate more on what the exact mod is? Where is the shim placed?
Thanks!

Embarassed I am at work and Don't have the issue here. And I don't know how to describe the mod. I'll post it later unless someone beats me to it.

Sorry..

CUTBACK

Thanks. I need to try that on my Super Reverb, whose reverb is extra crashy when I play at home, although nowhere else.

I've shimmed transducers before. It helps increase the reverb, but if the tank has been bumped around enough to make the transducers loose, chances are the wire from the RCA to the transducer has some broken wires in it too, so fix them too. At least in my experience.

I've also run the reverb out into the normal channel. This creates huge reverb, though I didn't find it very useful compared to an outboard. Fun to play around with though.

I had a Vibrolux Reverb with the Channel 1 mod using the 3 knobs for reverb (done by Kendrick, if I recall). It was neat and fairly versatile, but does not in any way shape or form get you the guitar-into-the tank-into-the-amp sound. Just my $.02, YMMV.

would putting a shim on am outboard reverb tank work also? and also, can this cause any damage to the unit?

Tried the mod on my reissue'63 Fender Reverb Unit last night and I noticed the reverb seemed to be more powerful but with less decay. Is this how it's supposed to sound with this mod? It seems to be a "cleaner", tighter sound but I kind of miss the splashy, crashy decay. Rolling Eyes

I had the same experience - I prefer it without the mod.

Did I mention that I never "kick" my reverb unit?.................................ed

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Tell me how it turns out, I want to try it.

I also like to think that all early 60's fender equipment is happy to be playing surf music again. After all, its the music it was meant to play.
