I couldn't find any, I figured it's too new. I've been wondering if the springs are shorter, am I reading that right?
I bought the bullet anyways and purchased a 3.0,
I'm pretty stoked, it's gonna be torture waiting for delivery!

I can use pretty much any latching footswitch right? I'll probably eventually spring for the Surfy Dripswitch at some point, just wondering if an Orange single latching footswitch I have laying around is going to work with Surfy Bear for now.

So... this arrived today. I bought it skeptically because I have bought so many vintage pans, tube units, surfy bear and later the surfy pan, etc etc. I was planning to plug it in, prove to myself that again, it is close but no cigar, and then try to sell it for close to what I paid.
This one finally nails it. I am a little astonished. It can actually go TOO FAR and sound TOO drippy. I haven't swapped the pan yet to see if that magic is portable, but oh my heavens, congratulations Surfy Team, you really did it.
I'm almost apprehensive about the loads of overly-drippy tracks we're all about to hear.

I've had mine almost a week, it really is fantastic! Throwing a little bit of slap echo in the loop brings out an even further layer of drip, it's insane!

Okay, but how does this compare to an actual tube reverb unit?

I can’t comment on the SurfyBear Classic 3.0 specifically but I can respond from experience with my Surfy Bear Metal. I’ve owned a 90’s Fender Reissue that I modded with the typical mods (better more accurate tubes, capacitor change, etc), as well as a hand built Gomez 6g15. The Surfy Bear is the best of the bunch overall in basically all ways. Best strongest level of drip, lowest noise floor, lowest weight, etc. The Surfy Bear Classic and Metal sound as good as any fender tube reverb units in my opinion and are arguably a better overall design since they don’t rely on tubes and are lighter and more compact.

In terms of tubes, I can only personally compare it to an early 2000s Fender reissue, an Austin Mics outboard reverb tanks, and ampwise, A Gomez "G" Reverb and a Swart Atomic Spacetone. In terms of the actually splashy-plappy drip, this unit is quite ahead of all of them.
Maybe my existing Surfybear is a lemon, or maybe I got a great one with the 3.0, but I feel like I've finally found what I have been looking for for about 15 years.
I'm far from a Surfy Industries shill - in fact I thought the unit was decent but overrated. I've tried the "Surfy" pan as well as some vintage Gibbs and original Fender reverb unit tanks. They make a mild improvement but this one is really great. Like I said, maybe too much without some discipline. Maybe I'll do a side-by-side this weekend with the old SurfyBear and the Austin Mics tube unit.

The Surfybear is the best non-tube option, hands down. The only problem is modern pans aren't as good as the old ones.
Surfy Industries seems to have finally nailed it with the extra short pan.
Eagerly awaiting a proper comparison between it and a Gibbs.

Ok...just to make sure I am not being old and thick here:
Surfy continues to use and sell separately, the 2 spring "Surfy Pan" that is custom spec'd / produced for them by Accutronics.
This new "Extra" pan in the 3.0 is still a 17" pan but with 4 springs and cannot be purchased separately?
I wonder if the new 4 spring pan will make its way into the Surfy Metal at some point?
Interestingly, from what I have come to understand, 17" 4 spring pans generally provide tons of deep, fat, reverb but tend to not be the best choice for "drip". So it stands to reason that the Surfy folks and Accutronics have worked their magic once again.

I honestly didn't find the "Surfy Pan" to be an improvement over the stock tank they used to include. I started to use vintage pans instead, with marginally better results. This new "Extra" pan seems to be pretty amazing though. I do wish it were sold separately, but it is not at this time. If I knew it would be available in a reasonable term, I would hold onto my Classic, but I'm likely to sell it (and hoping there are people out there who DON'T want the extreme drip so they will actually prefer an older model)

Sorry, where did you hear that it is a 4 spring pan? It is a 2 spring.

Thanks! We are glad that some of you are liking the SurfyBear Classic 3. A lot of the credit for the SurfyPan Extra has to go to our partner, Lorenzo, (and Bjorn since he had already nailed the circuit long ago). Just as the reissue Fender 6g15s had a different pan then the originals, based on what was available at the time, we also had to deal with what was available at the time that our first version came out. The Accutronics stock pan was the best, in our opinion, even though it was way too long. After a few years of developing a relationship with Accutronics, Lorenzo began to talk to them about making a custom pan for us, the SurfyPan. It took a lot of convincing and a long time, but they finally worked with us, thanks to Lorenzo's persistence. Getting an extra short pan done at the time, would have been much more difficult, so the SurfyPan with its higher quality components and, at least, a bit shorter decay than the stock pan, was a good stepping stone. *Also, this may come as a shock to some of you, but the majority of our customers do not play surf, and are not necessarily looking for the extra short decay. Not even all surf players today are looking for that, so, since getting Accutronics to make custom pans for us provides very little in the way of profit margin, we had to play it safe in this evolution. Lorenzo's persistence to the research and development of the SurfyPan Extra shows his dedication to the genre, as it was even more difficult to convince Accutronics to make yet another custom pan for us (they have to stop the regular production line of making way more of the regular pans to make a small number for us to our specifications-this also drives up the costs for us, btw), especially when they think that no one out there wants an extra short pan anymore. So when we were able to get a small number made, it made the most sense release it with the new version of the Classic, so that combined with the no true bypass and the tolex, you have our most trad sounding offering all together and since the Metal is true bypass and more modern, keeping it with the SurfyPan makes more sense. Just wanted to give you all some background here. Some of you seem confused between SurfyPan, SurfyPan Extra, and why SurfyPan Extra is not available separately at the moment. -Ted

I, for one look forward to the day they make the Surfypan Extras available and will scoop up several of them and forego my reliance on old vintage pans. If I had a need for an entire reverb tank I'd have been first in line for the classic 3.0, but alas I'm flush with reverb tanks. Everything I've seen about them seems to point to the perfect solution for the modern surf guitarist.

While the Classic 3.0 and the SurfyPan Extramay be what some players have been looking for, many modern surf bands are trios or have just one guitar and the SurfyPan (and true bypass Metal) may still be their choice to fill out the sound. We try to offer the flexibility and options for players to find the best combination that suits them.
Tonight, I'll be watching Chris Stapleton on SNL to see if he and his guitarist, Michael Eli Lopinto bring their SurfyBear Classic v2s with them for the songs they are playing.

I actually misread the part of the post where it indicated "exclusive Surfy Pan EXTRA type-4 spring reverb pan". I misread it out of context as "4 spring reverb pan". Thanks for the clarification. It must be one helluva great pan if it is even drippier than the previous Surfy Pan. You guys just keep outdoing yourselves.
